Tip Georgia – Gibraltar
Georgia welcomes Gibraltar to the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in this opening match of League C in the United Nations League. Both these teams have failed to qualify for the World Cup so this is their best chance of winning any silverware this season. While the teams that are going to Qatar later in the year may rest key players these two teams will be going all out for the win. Georgia had a disappointing World Cup qualifying tournament where they finished in fourth place only ahead of minnows Kosovo. They have had three friendly internationals after the qualifiers and have won two and drawn the other. Their home record has been good in recent matches as they have won the last two games but prior to this they were on a six matches without a win at home. Georgia have won their previous four matches against Gibraltar.
Gibraltar had a World Cup campaign that was disastrous as they lost all ten of their matches. They conceded an incredible 43 goals at an average of 4.3 goals per match. Gibraltar only scored three goals in their entire 10 match campaign. They have however shown improvement since the qualifiers as they have drawn their last two friendly matches but they failed to score in these matches. Gibraltar earned promotion to League C on the back of their previous United Nations League performance but they will find the competition in the League C much stronger. ConclusionGEORGIA – GIBRALTAR
Georgia will not only want to win this match but will want to do so in convincing fashion as they have won the two previous home matches against Gibraltar by an aggregate score of 7-0. The visitors will need to somehow get their strikers to find the net as they have been dismal in front of goal. The home team will be well on their way to victory if they score early as Gibraltar has only scored once in six matches. We are backing Georgia to lead at halftime and to win the match.
