Tip Germany – England

England will travel to Germany for their second game in Group 3, of League A in the Nations League, this coming after a 1-0 loss in Hungary. The Three Lions had a lackluster performance at the Puskas Arena and deservedly find themselves bottom of the group while Germany are second after a 1-1 away draw with Italy. Hosts Germany are now unbeaten in 10 matches, though their last two were draws. They’ve failed to score in just two of their last 15 matches and going to this game they will have revenge on the agenda. England was the last team to beat them, a 2-0 loss at Euro 2020. The Germans have been a different team since Hansi Flick took over. They head here with a fine run at home, winning all the last four and are unbeaten in six.

Germany have three wins and England two in their last six meetings. This has always been a big encounter, and England must up their game as they head to Germany. Gareth Southgate had two debutants against Hungary, with one, James Justin limping off injured while the other, Jarrod Bowen had a good game. Bowen is expected to keep his place in Germany but Southgate has to push his charges more after a difficult and tiring domestic campaign. England’s first loss in 10 matches left more questions than answers, especially with the Jude Bellingham-Declan Rice pairing in midfield, which failed to shield the defence appropriately. Southgate will want a return to the defensive shape that has seen his side keep three clean sheets in the last five matches. However, he will recall that those came against much less endowed teams – Cote d’Ivoire, San Marino and Albania. Before the Hungary game, England had scored two or more in each of the four matches.

ConclusionGERMANY – ENGLAND

England will head into this game as the underdogs, and will not like it that they head to Germany right after a loss to much lower ranked Hungary. Germany did well to get a draw in Italy and at home they’ve been doing well under Hansi Flick. In the hosts’ recent form, a win for them is a big possibility here.
